News: on the performance front, in Toronto, I just finished Opera Atelier's 6 show run of the North American period premiere of Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito which was raved about by audiences and critics alike.
Next up with Opera Atelier will be another Mozart classic: Don Giovanni in the fall.
Following Clemenza, I choreographed and danced two more shows before jetting to Tokyo: on May 12th, Water Music (baroque dance to Handel's g major Water Music suite) with Baroque Music Beside the Grange. This is my second collaboration with BMBG and dancer Leonie Gagne in a presentation at the ROM theatre. Last year, we did a suite of Purcell dances, which was successful enough for the ROM to ask us back for their Handel event this year. I look forward to next year's event, and to possible touring which is in negotiations now.
For my final show, on May14th, I choreographed and danced Bach's B minor orchestral suite for Aradia Ensemble's
'Bach + 1' concert at the Glenn Gould studio, as a quartet for myself and three other dancers: Kate Garret, Tyler Gledhill, and Julia Sedwick. I incorporated elements of Baorque dance, classical ballet, contemporary dance and even some club styles to reflect the timeless nature of Bach's music. After the performance, we were called out by the enthusiastic crowd for several curtain calls. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Aradia Ensemble, and I hope to continue to work with them in the future.
Yesterday (May 20th, 2011), I arrived in Japan to tackle 7 performaces, the choreogrpahy of 1 duet, and several teaching engagements, while scrambling to finalize the text and image of my CD (0 to 1), and update my web-presence. Whew! ;)
Playing with Time, choreographed, composed, and danced by Jeremy Nasmith.
